Formnext Asia Tokyo Forum 2025 concludes, offering targeted business opportunities for AM industry

7 Oct 2025

Formnext Asia Tokyo Forum 2025 closed doors on 26 September at the Tokyo Metropolitan Industrial Trade Center HAMAMATSUCHO-KAN. Taking place across two days, the sixth edition welcomed 52 exhibitors from Austria, Japan, Korea, Sweden and the UK, showcasing the industry’s most up-to-date 3D printing and additive manufacturing (AM) technologies, products and services to 907 visitors. Both highly specialised and business-focused, Japan’s leading industry trade event provided essential offerings and information for AM utilisation and contributed to the industry's development in Japan.

The event consisted of an array of cutting-edge technology exhibitions and seminars, all centred on additive manufacturing. Throughout the venue, visitors actively engaged with exhibitors, seeking the latest information and products. Mr Tsuyoshi Kobayashi of Materialise Japan KK, exhibiting for the third consecutive year, commented: “We have a product jointly developed by three companies: EOS Electro Optical Systems Japan K.K., NTT DATA XAM Technologies Corporation, and ourselves. Our primary goal exhibiting here is to raise awareness of this product among AM companies. During the event, we have exchanged information and conducted business discussions directly with our current clients, and also introduced our technologies and products to new potential buyers.”

Exhibiting for the first time, Ms Isabelle Hachette, CEO of Interspectral AB from Sweden, shared their results: “This year we are focusing on the Japanese 3D printing market. Although the exhibition is small in scale, the proximity to visitors makes it easier to establish contact going forward. We have exchanged around 40 business cards in just one day and several are looking promising for progressing to concrete business discussions.”

Buyers consistently demonstrated their willingness to explore potential partnerships. This was further attested to by Mr Mitsuru Takao of Sanwa Dental Co., LTD., with the company also making their exhibiting debut: “We were able to hold business discussions with visitors who possessed knowledge of AM and 3D printers and had clear objectives. On the first day alone, we exchanged nearly 70 business cards, yielding promising results for future business development.”

Visitor Mr Ghulam Mrutaz of Suzuki Motor Corporation commented: “I came seeking a manufacturing company capable of producing prototype automotive components via 3D printing. By visiting 10 to 15 exhibitors to compare costs, lead times, and materials used, I was able to identify a manufacturer meeting our requirements.”

As part of the fringe programme, 24 presentations took place across three stages. They featured leading industry players and university professors specialising in AM, 3D printing and software, who shared their views on developments and future trends. An attendee from  Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd, a defence equipment manufacturer, who attended a panel discussion featuring representatives from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry alongside the Ministry of Defence, commented: “In addition to the industry-academia discussion, I found the seminars on titanium additive manufacturing, melt pool thermal management, optimisation of laser geometry and scanning control, and enhanced automation solutions particularly interesting. Those seminars provided valuable insight into overseas asset management practices and the differences with Japan. I intend to apply this knowledge to my daily work.”
