Fifth edition of Formnext Forum Tokyo 2024 ends with positive feedback on show’s business potential

9 Oct 2024

Across two full days of trade and innovation exchange, 1,103 visitors attended Formnext Forum Tokyo 2024 where 56 exhibitors showcased up-to-date technologies and materials dedicated to industrial additive manufacturing (AM). The forum took place at the Tokyo Metropolitan Industrial Trade Center HAMAMATSUCHO-KAN from 26 – 27 September. As Japan’s leading AM trade event, it provides an essential platform for the industry, offering networking opportunities and interactive experiences for exhibitors and visitors alike.

The forum offered a total of 21 seminars across two fringe event areas, with topics ranging from “Communication activation and co-creation through manufacturing” to “Trends in the materials industry and the diffusion of AM Technology”. Most seminars were filled over capacity, with many attendees taking notes and photographs visibly eager to learn about the latest 3D printing and AM technologies and market insights. After attending “Technological development of metal powder for AM”, Mr Fukutaro Adachi, Staff Engineer of Honda R&D Co., Ltd., said; “I was able to hear first-hand accounts from people actually involved in product development and gain information that will be useful for my future work.”

Participants hailed from four countries and regions, namely China, France, Japan and Korea. During the event, exhibitors offered visitors a wide range of the latest products and services in AM and intelligent industrial production, including materials, powder metallurgy, design, software, and post-processing technologies.

“We believe the Japanese AM market has huge potential to expand our business; therefore, it is important to have an opportunity to introduce our products to the market. On just the first day, we were able to exchange our business cards with over 50 companies”, said Ms Akiko Orimo, Section Leader of Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation, a first-time exhibitor at the show.

An exhibitor from Korea, Mr Casio Kim, Manager of HDC Co., LTD., praised the show’s specific nature: “In Japan, there are really many shows where AM is mixed with other industrialised items, but Formnext Forum Tokyo is the one event that exhibits AM only. While at other shows participants come from different industries, visitors who come to this show are very AM focused, therefore it is easier to discuss business here. We are very interested in exhibiting next year, too”.

The next edition of Formnext Forum Tokyo will be held from 25 – 26 September 2025.

With Japanese AM technology on the rise, Formnext Forum Tokyo covers a wide spectrum of upstream and downstream industrial AM processes and equipment. As a sister show of Formnext in Frankfurt, Formnext Forum Tokyo is part of a series of international events, including:
