Fringe programme highlights cutting-edge developments in AM – from automotive and aerospace to academic research
Over two days, the venue will host 24 seminars featuring prominent leaders in the AM industry. The Special Seminar will cover key topics including the current utilisation of 3D printing in the automotive sector and ongoing development efforts toward aerospace applications. Mr Hiroyuki Oiwa, representing Toyota Industries Corporation, will present initiatives aimed at increasing the awareness and utilisation of 3D printers, as well as examples illustrating their current application within the industry. Moreover, Mr Keita Terashima of Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) will provide detailed insights into their innovative technology, research, and development programs aimed at drastically reducing the cost and weight of future rocket structures. For the first time in industry history, a panel discussion will feature representatives from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry alongside the Ministry of Defence. This discussion will cover the government’s expectations regarding the application of AM going forward. The Industrial Seminar, co-hosted by the Japan Welding Engineering Society Additive Manufacturing Division and the Japanese Institute of Additive Manufacturing, will discuss ongoing initiatives and the current landscape of AM in Europe and the US.
The Academic Presentation, a new feature this year, will showcase research breakthroughs in metal materials for AM and advances in micro 3D printing technology. Professor Shoji Maruo, from Yokohama National University, will discuss the development and application of Micro 3D Printing technology using diverse photocurable ink, and Mr Matthew Diable from the University of Liverpool will present the theme, ‘Lighting the way: New polymeric photoinitiators for safer vat photopolymerisation 3D printing.’ Meanwhile, in the Exhibitor Presentation, suppliers will introduce their products and latest services. Mr Casio (Young Chan) Kim, a member of HDC Co., Ltd., will talk about Solukon and its products related to Metal AM Printing Post Process Powder Removal, ADAXIS, MX3D, and CEAD.

Held annually, Formnext Asia Tokyo Forum attracts the entire spectrum of AM stakeholders. The event covers an array of advanced technology and all of the upstream and downstream AM processes and equipment, including materials, powder metallurgy, design, software, and post-processing technologies.
